Midweek Wednesday Book Reviews

Book Review #3

Title: We Dare You :Scrapbook Challenges About Real Life
By:Kristina Contes, Meghan Heath Dymock, Genevieve Simmonds, and N
isa Fiin.

What I like about this book:

This book is Exciting! The cover says it all...its one of those that just entice you to read on... I love the collection of layouts in the book... each artist creates unique and inspiring pieces for us to "soak" in... The graphics in the book reaches out to you... its easy to read... and divided into 6 main categories... simple Dares for you to try...
-The Good
-The Bad
-The Ugly
-The Silly, Wacky, Funny
-The Random
and The Best.
It's all good...so you have to get your hands on this book...
And the artists even have a website you can visit... www.efferdares.com for more Inspirations.

Where you can find this book:
Woodlands Regional Library (745.593 WE[REC])

This book gets a good 5/5 brads!!!!

And just to share...

I made this last 2weeks... and my source of Inspiration came from this page of today's Book review...

In this layout, I sand the edges of my photo lightly, used the techniques I learnt with Leena and drizzled on some Making Memories acrylic paint... I used Pink Paislee's glitters in Licorice and Cream Soda... then added Maya Road mist in brown... and topped it with dew drops...
I choose a neat picture of my scrap area... against the messy background and picked a simple, small title to create a jarring effect. I tell myself that its okay to have a messy table when I am creating...because at times the need to keep everything in order gets in the way of things...Ironically!

Hope you enjoyed that...

Till the, Scrap to your heart's desires!

...Time after Time.

Last night, I was stressed out...
So I had to... I just had to...

This layout is on a good friend's engagement ceremony. She's been a friend in good and bad times... for over 10 years now... I edited the picture using my camera... cause I wanted to highlight the clock which marked the time the ceremony was just about to finish... I adore the look on her face... you can almost see the last bit of anxiousness and uncertainty in her face, as she's gone through a day of waiting...its really a beautiful timeless moment...

The colours chosen may look a little dull for a layout on an engagement... but it is not the typical bride or girly colours because I wanted to spill the emotions she's going through onto the layout...As a new and exciting journey begins, there will be new challenges to face, and I want her to know that wherever Life takes her, I will be there for her... I love you, my friend.

And what better way than say it with a song...
"If you're lost, you can look...
and you will find me,
Time after Time.
If you fall, I will catch you...
I will be waiting,
Time after Time.

{Time after Time- Cyndi Lauper}

And I really love this song...especially the acoustic version by Norah Jones. Have a listen... It's really good for tired days... just something relaxing to unwind to...

So go on...Scrap to your heart's desires!

At Last...

I just want to share this wonderful news with everyone! Last week, I finally got my transcript! I am grateful upon completing the Diploma in Disability Studies with SSTI and Centre for Disability Studies at the University of Sydney. I could'nt have done so without the love, encouragements, and support from my dear family, colleagues, students ... teachers! So grateful and blessed for this opportunity given to me and I am looking forward to more learning journeys ahead...

I thought I should treat myself to some new CHA arrivals... we'll see...

I have completed the mini album done up for my friend, Ayu... She was more than happy to share these pictures with everyone... so here are some sneaks...

I have always admired her for her deep love and devotion towards Family... I hope she likes the album!

I am now working on my layout for My Scrapbooking Supplies... on my scrap space... so stay tune...I will be sharing how that turned out...

Wishing everyone celebrating Chinese New Year a Happy, Prosperous year ahead!
Happy V day to all too...

Till then, Scrap to your heart's desires...

Book Review #2

Title: Lifelines: Creating Memory Art To Chronicle Your Personal Connections
By Carol Wingert & Tena Sprenger

What I like about this book:
This book explores, the use of different mediums and intermediate techniques in scrapbooking and craft work. Some of the techniques mentioned are embossing on crafter's metal, working with melted wax and creating texture on canvas. I love how the authors used their personal stories to reach out to the readers...Its filled with step by step instructions, list of supplies needed and pictures- which makes it a whole lot easier to try out... It gives good insight to learning new mediums and their uses in scrapbooking... such as gum arabic, beeswax, gesso and linseed oil... There are so many good tips for readers! It also features works of famous artists like Celine Navarro and Heidi Swapp. However, some of the materials used are not so easy to find in Singapore... so you got to explore and experiment to see if you can substitute it with the Next best thing!

A little on Life and Canvas.

Its been a long week...
and a beautiful weekend.

All Work that was due next Monday, was ready by Thursday...which was something new...

On Saturday, WE went to Botanic Gardens, and fed the fishes... birds... and I'm suprised...cause even the swans were interested in our buns! Hah... the last time, they just passed by us... sniffed our goods... swam away... haha... guess they were desperate... Then we headed off to Woodlands... to watch others fly their kites... We lay our mat... and ate our LJS meal on the hill... watched the world go by, and talked about Life.

Its the little things... We remind ourselves to be thankful and grateful for... Just watching everyone there with their families and friends... knowing we can all exist among each other... though we are from different races, faith, beliefs, backgrounds... knowing we have a safe place to live in... knowing that people We love are safe... I am most grateful for that.

Some pictures of our adventures...

And then Sunday came... And I was very excited to meet Leena in person... though the journey was long, it was definitely worth it... The canvas/ layout class was a blast! I consider myself Blessed, to meet new friends... and learn something new! I also learned that I am not very confident working with the sewing machine... so I have to definitely practice... and I am looking forward to using the new 'splattering' technique on other layouts soon! That needs more practice too!

I will post pictures of my layouts from the class tomorrow... when there's more sun...

Till then...Scrap to your heart's desires!

The Flubug and everything in between.

I survived a week of flu and fever...!
Its been very tiring fighting the flubug... still recuperating...just feel so weak...

I am thankful I managed to finish most of my workload... so that my weekends are free... and I can actually wear my jeans out... YES! its the simplest things that makes weekends a weekend! And I am glad and Grateful, to have a lucky slot for Leena's canvas/ layout class this Sunday... I am looking forward to learning, experimenting and forging new friendships!

As at now, I am jotting down notes, and sketching some cards... preparing for the craft lessons I will be teaching a few of the students... in coming weeks... So I'm cracking my brains thinking of ways to incorporate skills that are functional while making the cards...maybe doing some samples this weekend.

You know now I carry at least 2 different notebooks (and I really mean paper and pen) everywhere I go... just so that whenever I've got ideas popping out of my brains, I can quickly jot them down... it could be work, home, everything and anything...anywhere!!! oh I'm such a messy thinker! now How did I get that way... hmmmmmm...

Just a little Announcement! My Scrapbooking Supplies is having a draw soon for a free Cricut Cartridge! So do head down to their website and check it out!

The weekends are near... So scrap to your heart's desires!
